Ring in the New Year in the Heart of Waikīkī
Royal Hawaiian Center, a Waikīkī landmark, welcomes good fortune and great deals, with its Lucky Bag promotion.

Royal Hawaiian Center invites you to begin the year with good fortune and great deals with its Lucky Bag promotion which kicks off with a traditional taiko drum performance at 9:30 a.m. in The Royal Grove.
On Monday, January 1, 2024, and Tuesday, January 2, 2024, participating merchants will offer significant discounts on lucky bags sold for half their retail value.
Lucky Bag traces its roots back to a Tokyo department store in the early 20th century and has since evolved into one of the most popular New Year traditions in Hawaiʻi and Japan.
The cultural tradition is inspired by the belief that people’s lucky bags reflect the good fortune they’ll enjoy in the new year. To celebrate the new year, merchants sell their lucky bags for up to half the retail price. The catch? The bag’s contents are kept secret until shoppers purchase them!
Lucky Bags will range from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars, depending on the merchant. No matter which stores they visit, however, shoppers will be treated to an item that’s worth up to twice as much as they paid for it.
Quantities are limited, so shoppers are encouraged to arrive early to participate in this beloved tradition.
Bags are limited, so shop early, save big, and get lucky! Merchants scheduled to participate in Lucky Bag 2024 include:
- ABC Store
- Dean & Deluca
- Harbors Vintage
- Island Slipper
- Jimmy Choo
- Junbi
- kate spade new york
