Back again to talk about everything Hawaii, Kevin Allen and Catherine Toth Fox talk at great lengths—seriously, it’s the longest podcast yet—with one of their favorite coworkers, Katrina Valcourt, who serves as the managing editor of HONOLULU Magazine.

Of course, the conversation starts with food, specifically about HONOLULU Magazine’s 2019 Hale Aina award winners, Lineage (which won the readers’ choice award) on Maui and Rangoon Burmese Kitchen in Chinatown on Oahu, which took the editors’ pick. The delectable and fussy (Cat’s words) drinks of Bar Leather Apron in Downtown Honolulu were also discussed. Katrina also took on the Road to Hana on her recent trip to Maui, which had to be rescheduled due to natural disasters—you’ll have to listen to find out what that means!—and you can learn about the perilous road’s best stops here.

Katrina and her travel companion, Gary Saito, also traveled up to Haleakala; however, Mercury was in retrograde so Katrina’s computer malfunctioned and they couldn’t reserve sunrise tickets, opting for the sunset instead. The Alii Kula Lavender farm, MauiWine, Star Noodle, the Olivine Pools, Iao Valley and the Surfing Goat Dairy were also on Katrina’s extensive Maui itinerary. On a side note—and trust us, there are a lot of those—Katrina mentions her recent Oahu horse yoga adventure, and you can read that full story here.
