HAWAII Magazine wins top honors for visitor publication excellence

HAWAII Magazine won top honors for visitor publication excellence in the Hawaii Publishers Association’s 28th annual Pai Awards competition, which recognizes outstanding achievement in print journalism in the state.

At an awards ceremony held in Honolulu yesterday to recognize top journalism produced during 2012, HAWAII Magazine took first place in the category of Visitor Publication Excellence for publications with more than 500,000 issues printed annually. We also won first place in the category of Visitor Publication Photography.

In addition, HAWAII Magazine took second-place wins in the categories of Feature Photography (printed on coated/glossy paper) and Essay Photography. Finally, we picked up an honorable mention for Excellence in Design (coated stock).

Judged by an independent panel of professional journalists and publishing experts based on the U.S. Mainland, the annual Pai competition is open to Hawaii’s newspapers, magazines and other print-focused publications. (Pa’i translates from Hawaiian as “to applaud.”) The Hawaii Publishers Association is a nonprofit media organization that promotes the print publishing industry in Hawaii.
