Trust me when I say this: You’ve never had Korean food in Hawaiʻi quite like this. Onkee opened last year, with a menu boasting modern South Korean cuisine prepared by Michelin restaurant-trained chefs from Korea. Think traditional yukhoe (Korean-style beef tartare), beef shank salad and japcha, seafood platters with uni or caviar upgrades, braised short rib, high-end Miyazaki wagyu and the one of the best kimchi fried rice in the Islands. Its happy hour is a great way to sample Onkee’s menu. Served at the bar, it has truffle tune poke ($14), neobiani (smashed kalbi steak, $19), skewers of rib eye and mushrooms ($17), braised short rib with rice ($18) and spicy kimchi salad ($18), in addition to discounts on beers and cocktails.

Standouts at this Japanese barbecue restaurant include han-burger sliders, bibimbap, Korean sweet pancakes with housemade ice cream, stone bowl garlic rice (made tableside) and its selection of high-grade beef, from premium kalbi to assorted A5 grade Miyazaki beef that literally melts in your mouth. Cocktails and beer discounts, too. Happy hour runs from 3 to 5 p.m. at the table, 3 to 6 p.m. at the bar.

A go-to for pau hana and meet-ups with friends, Moku Kitchen has a varied menu with local salads, hand-tossed pizzas, fish tacos, smashburgers and a nice selection of cocktails, mocktails, beers and wines. There’s a keiki menu, with cheeseburgers, cheese pizzas and macaroni in a red sauce. (Noodles with cheese are free for kids under 3.) And, of course, there are the restaurant’s famous cream pies. During its daily happy hour, small plates—Szechuan stir-fry green beans, bulgogi sliders, garlic truffle oil fries and roasted squash ravioli—are 50% off and pizzas are $12 each.
