Kauaʻi Coffee Co. is no ordinary Hawaiʻi coffee farm. At over 3,000 acres in size and home to 4 million coffee trees, the locally owned and operated coffee farm continues to wow visitors and locals with its delicious-tasting coffee and engaging visitor experiences.

It’s no wonder that Kauaʻi Coffee Company has taken home top honors in three HAWAIʻI Magazine Readers’ Choice Award categories: Best Coffee Grower (All Islands), Best Farm Tour (Kauaʻi) and Best Store for Souvenirs (Kauaʻi).

Why is Kauaʻi Coffee so special? Darla Domingo, retail operations manager, accounts for much of the local company’s success due to the way it does business.

“We grow, harvest, roast, package and distribute our products all internally,” Domingo says. “That means we have full control over the quality and production of our beans.”

And it shows, with Kauaʻi Coffee Co. often being voted as the best of the best in our coffee grower category.

Aside from being grown in rich volcanic soil—which gives its coffee so much flavor—the beans grown and harvested at Kauaʻi Coffee Co. also hold the rare distinction of being triple-certified by three leading sustainability advocates: Fair Trade USA, the Rainforest Alliance and Non-GMO Project.

“With these certifications, we offer an authentic product that is grown locally on Kauaʻi, made responsibly, and verified by third parties to meet sustainability objectives,” says Dawna Haze, Kauaʻi Coffee’s area business manager. “We grow coffee that our customers can feel great about purchasing and sharing with their ʻohana.”

But it’s not just the coffee that visitors love about Kauaʻi Coffee Co.. Since the farm has an expansive property full of history and beautiful panoramic views of Kauaʻi’s southern shoreline, coffee farm tours at Kauaʻi Coffee have become a top attraction for visitors to the Garden Isle. On the farm’s hourlong property tour, an open-air tram ferries visitors around Kauaʻi Coffee’s beautiful island estate—and since the area is a working farm you can even watch employees harvest, plant and roast coffee during your tour.

If you really love coffee and want to get an in-depth look at how Kauaʻi Coffee roasts and brews its products, the farm’s Coffee on the Brain tour is exactly what you’re looking for. Kauaʻi Coffee Co.’s tour guides will share their knowledge with you in a hourlong class before taking groups on a personalized 30-minute walking tour. And yes, there will be plenty of coffee to sample on all the tours.

Of course, you don’t need to go on a tour to enjoy what Kauaʻi Coffee Co. has to offer. The estate’s visitor center is open to guests every day and people can stop in for complimentary samples of Kauaʻi Coffee products and to take a self-guided walk through a nearby path surrounded by coffee trees. There’s even a full coffee bar for visitors to enjoy. Depending on the day, you may see farmers roasting coffee right on the property or even hauling in a fresh crop of Kauaʻi Coffee beans.

“At Kauaʻi Coffee, every day is different,” says Domingo, “and every time you come, there’s something new to see.”
