An Unforgettable Experience at Maui Alpaca Farm
Get up close and personal with alpaca and Angora rabbits at this Upcountry Maui farm.

When you think of Hawaiʻi, you picture palm trees, golden beaches and aquamarine waters.
Not alpaca.
But the adorable camelid does live in the Islands, and you can learn all about them at Maui Alpaca, an 8-acre farm located on the slopes of Haleakalā.
At the end of a winding road in rural Upcountry Maui is a sprawling farm, once a retreat and now home to about a dozen alpaca and a bunch of fluffy Angora rabbits. The farm raises two fleece types—suri and huacaya—and processes some of their wool on-site. (The rest is processed on the Mainland.)
This family-run farm offers hourlong tours seven days a week, where you can feed and cuddle with the farm’s gentle alpaca and Angora bunnies. The feeding is undoubtedly the most fun; your guide will give you bowls of feed that the alpaca will eat right out of. You’ll learn their names—Kala, Nakoa, Cassie, Kauri, Sassy—and their unique personalities. You might even get to meet one of the babies (called cria, by the way). After feeding, you can pet and cuddle with the alpaca; this is the perfect time to get pose for photos or snap selfies. Next, you’ll head to the Angora Bunny Village, where you can pet some of the softest, fluffiest rabbits around. The Angora rabbit is one of the oldest types of domestic rabbit, bred for its long fibers of coat, known as Angora wool. They can be a bit shy, but your guide will help you find one to cuddle. After that, you’ll learn how both the alpaca fiber and Angora wool are processed and can try your hand at hand-spinning some yourself.
For a more intimate experience, you can book a trekking tour, where you can take an alpaca for a walk on the slopes of Haleakalā. This once-in-a-lifetime experience includes feeding and photos, too.
The Maui Alpaca Paniolo Picnic includes a leisurely picnic-style lunch—sandwiches, chips and fruits—in the alpaca pasture. After lunch, you’ll get to meet and feed the animals. This is a great option for celebrating birthdays, anniversaries or other special occasions.
Don’t leave without stopping at the farm’s retail shop, where you can browse handcrafted goods—hats, scarves, yarn—made from alpaca fleece.
It’s a fun and unique experience you can only have at Maui Alpaca—and one you’ll remember for years to come.
