The first Hawaii lodging property flagged under Hyatt Hotels Corp’s Andaz luxury boutique hotel brand opened to guests at Maui’s Wailea resort area this week.

The opening of Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort & Spa marks the completion of a $90 million renovation to the 15-acre property, formerly home to the Renaissance Wailea Beach Resort. Andaz Maui is the brand’s first lodging property in a resort destination and tenth addition to its international resort line-up. Hyatt launched the Andaz brand in April 2007.

Locations of other Andaz-flagged properties include London, U.K.; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Napa, San Diego and Hollywood, Calif.; and Wall Street and 5th Avenue, New York, N.Y.

Andaz Maui has 297 guest rooms and suites, including seven residential villas with two to four bedrooms.

An apothecary lounge at the spa allows guests to choose from various locally-grown herbs, plants and fruits to customize the products used in their treatments.

The resort’s two restaurants include the casual Kaana Kitchen, with a menu and kitchen team led by skilled Maui-raised executive chef Isaac Bancaco, and Morimoto Maui—the second Hawaii restaurant by Iron Chef Japan’s Masaharu Morimoto. Andaz Maui’s two poolside cocktail lounges—Bumbye Beach Bar and Lehua Lounge—feature signature craft cocktail designed by renowned New York-based bartender/bar owner and Hawaii native Julie Reiner.

Andaz Maui is a joint venture between Hyatt Hotels Corp. and property owner Starwood Capital Group.
