Virgin America announces first flights to Hawaii with $199 one-way fares from San Francisco
This winter, California’s Bay Area will have a new direct link to tropical Hawaii. Virgin America announced today that it will make its first foray into the Hawaiian market with two new routes stemming from San Francisco. An accompanying introductory fare sale offers $199 one-way tickets to the Islands.
The airline begins regular both-direction daily flights between San Francisco and Honolulu, Oahu on November 2. Another route between San Francisco and Kahului, Maui will start December 3. Brand new Airbus A320 aircraft—featuring leather seats, touch screen personal entertainment systems and on-demand inflight menus—will service both routes.
If you want to take advantage of Virgin America’s $199 Hawaii tickets, however, it’s best to act fast. The airline did not reveal when its fare sale might end. When HawaiiMagazine.com checked the airline’s website this afternoon, the fare sale was offered on select travel dates between each route’s launch and February 2016. Sale tickets are for travel in Main Cabin seats only and are not inclusive of taxes and restrictions. Pricier sale fares will earn you passage via their more posh Main Cabin Select or First Class seats.
Members of the airline’s Elevate loyalty program can redeem accumulated points for Hawaii tickets with no blackout dates beginning tomorrow (April 8). Award flights to Hawaii start at 8559 points.
The two Hawaii destinations will be the 22nd and 23rd for the California-based carrier, and a fare sale for some of its other routes—with one-way fares starting at $49—is also ongoing. Virgin America’s other destinations include: Austin, Boston, Cancun, Chicago, Dallas Love Field, Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Los Cabos, Newark, New York (JFK and LGA), Orlando, Palm Springs (seasonal), Portland, Puerto Vallarta, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington D.C. (IAD and DCA).
