Hawaii National Park pass offers unlimited entry to popular parks on Maui, Hawaii Island for $25

Frequent island-hopping National Park visitors may want to add a new card to their wallets.

The National Park Service’s Hawaii Tri-Park Pass covers admission to the Islands’ three national parks that charge fees—Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Puuhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park on Hawaii Island, and Maui’s Haleakala National Park—for one year from the date of purchase. The pass costs $25 and its newest design depicts naupaka kahakai, a coastal plant found in all three of the parks.

The cost of the TriPark pass is equivalent to a single visit to each park with a vehicle, and represents a savings from the park service’s Interagency Recreation Pass, which allows visitors annual admission to any U.S. national park for $80.

The Hawaii pass has been offered since 2006 with a new design unveiled every five years. Hilo artist John Dawson, who designed the new image of the naupaka kahakai plant, also designed the image of the native shrub ulei on the last iteration of the pass. Dawson’s artwork depicting natural scenes from around the country have been displayed on multiple U.S. Postal Service special edition stamps.
 
The new Tri-Park Pass may be shared between any two people, though at least one of the pass holders must be present at the time of use. The pass covers the pass holder as well as accompanying persons in a single, private, non-commercial vehicle or immediate family members if arriving by foot, bike or public transit.

The Tri-Park pass is currently only available for purchase at the entrance stations of all three parks.
